DESTAQUES DO EVENTO

English version

Dr. Henrique Radwanski and his experience as Program Chair at the 32nd ISHRS World Congress

In 2024, I had the honor of being invited by the President of ISHRS, Dr. Bradley Wolf, to be the program chair of the 32nd World Congress of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), held in Denver. It was a truly rewarding experience. As a hair restoration plastic surgeon for over 25 years, this Congress marked a highlight in my career.

Planning an event of such magnitude and ensuring that it was an enriching experience for all participants required a collaborative and innovative effort. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to work with a dedicated and efficient international team, which made everything very enjoyable. From the beginning, I received a lot of support, recognizing the importance of the role of Chairman.

I had worked on other international events, such as the German Brazilian Aesthetic Meeting, and I could see the commitment of all the staff and colleagues to the success of the Congress. I had the honor of working closely with Melanie Stancampiano, Program Director of ISHRS, and I can say that everything was done with great respect and consideration.

ISHRS is a non-profit organization, but it generates significant resources, which facilitates the entire organization of the event. With an excellent staff, the society has an extensive organizational chart, with many people working towards the congress and the various meetings and activities held throughout the year.

CHALLENGES FACED

I believe that one of the biggest challenges in putting together the scientific program was creating comprehensive content that would meet the needs of different levels of congress participants, from beginners to those who have been attending ISHRS events for many years.

Another significant challenge was the three-day limit, which prevented us from including all the desired topics and speakers. The process of selecting the abstracts submitted required careful filtering, with the participation of the scientific committee, composed of several colleagues who evaluated the papers.

In addition to selecting the most interesting topics, it was essential, in an international organization such as ISHRS, to include different regions, ensuring global representation. With over 70 countries represented, it was important to recognize the diversity of countries and regions, ensuring balanced and enriching participation for all participants.

I was very pleased to be able to select the work of many Brazilians. With over 30 colleagues participating in the general sessions, basic course, African hair session, courses and posters, it was the largest number of Brazilians in the history of ISHRS congresses. Once again, I am sure that the group of Brazilians confirmed the creativity and seriousness of our specialists. And as the cherry on the cake, we were also proud to witness Arthur Tykocinski receiving the Golden Follicle Award for his valuable contribution to international society over so many years.

HIGHLIGHTS

In terms of new developments, I would like to highlight the integration of artificial intelligence in the evaluation of the donor and recipient areas, a valuable tool for the future. Dr. Carlotti's talk revealed how AI is already part of medicine, facilitating the planning and, possibly, the execution of hair transplants. Innovations such as multiple implants to speed up the placement phase were also explored, with advanced machines that facilitate the extraction of follicular units.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE 33RD ISHRS CONGRESS

It is remarkable that each event becomes more organized and scientifically relevant. At the end of the last session, a meeting of the scientific committee was called, where I presented my considerations and heard those of the others. In general, most of the feedback was positive, with some constructive criticism that will certainly contribute to improving the next congress.

I can say that, in 2025, Dr. Sam Lam will be leading the 33rd Congress, which will be held in Berlin. The theme will be "The Unity of Hair Transplant", reflecting the history of the chosen city, which was separated by a wall and became once again, symbolizing the unity that we seek in our field.
